Consoles from 20–40 years ago fail in predictable ways: capacitors dry out, contacts oxidise, batteries leak, lasers wear down. Below are the most common symptoms and their typical causes. We don't guess — we confirm the cause with a free diagnosis before quoting a price.
No picture or sound
Typical causes: a snowy or distorted picture, no signal on the TV — a damaged video path, worn AV/RF connectors, broken cables.

Won't read cartridges
Typical causes: a game starts every other time or not at all — oxidised cartridge contacts and a worn slot (the famous 72-pin in the NES and Pegasus).

Microsoldering and recapping — what saves retro consoles
In consoles from 20–40 years ago you can't just swap “the whole module” — nobody makes those modules any more. We repair at the level of individual components: replacing dried-out capacitors, soldering chips, rebuilding traces eaten by battery leaks and refurbishing cartridge slots. The original hardware stays original — and it works.
Why old consoles stop working
The most common culprit is electrolytic capacitors — after decades they dry out or leak, and the electrolyte eats the board traces. The second is oxidised contacts and slots. Both problems are fully repairable — provided the workshop can solder, not just swap modules.

Do you repair the Pegasus and other NES clones?
Yes, the Pegasus is a frequent guest here. We repair cartridge slots (72-pin), power, the video path and oxidised contacts — both in original NES units and in the Famicom clones sold in Poland as the Pegasus.
The console sat in a cupboard for years and won't turn on — can it be saved?
Usually yes. The typical culprits are dried-out capacitors, a failed power supply or a blown fuse — we replace all of these. The diagnosis is free, so you risk nothing: we'll check the console and tell you exactly what ails it.
A battery leaked and ate the board — is it game over?
Not always. We remove corrosion with ultrasonic cleaning and rebuild broken traces with microsoldering. We assess the damage during a free diagnosis — and tell you honestly whether the repair makes sense.
NES / Pegasus won't read cartridges, or a game starts every other time?
That's a classic: oxidised contacts and a worn 72-pin cartridge slot. We clean the contacts, and if the slot is worn — we refurbish it or fit a new one. After the repair, games load on the first try.
PS1, PS2 or Dreamcast won't read discs — can you fix it?
Yes. In disc-based consoles it's usually the laser or the drive mechanism that wears out — we adjust or replace the laser and service the drive in the PS1, PS2, Saturn, Dreamcast and GameCube. After the repair we test the console on real games.
What is recapping and when is it needed?
Recapping is replacing the full set of electrolytic capacitors with new ones. After 20–40 years the electrolytes dry out or leak — the console resets, dies once warm, buzzes or won't start at all. It's one of the most effective “treatments” for retro hardware, especially the Game Gear, Amiga and Sega consoles.

Do you have parts for consoles this old?
Electronic components (capacitors, slots, lasers) are mostly available as new replacements. For rarer chips we check parts availability, including donor consoles — and tell you honestly if something can't be sourced, before you decide.
Will a repair lower the console's collector value?
We work with respect for the original: no changes to the case or looks, we replace only what's necessary, and we always tell you which components were replaced. A working console with its original looks is the best scenario for a collector.
How do I send my console from another city, and what's the warranty?
The easiest way is an InPost parcel locker (WAW47A) or a DPD courier (PLN 20 one way) — pack the console well in a box with padding. After the free diagnosis we call you with a quote, and after the repair we ship it back with a warranty of up to 12 months (the period depends on the repair type). Order a courier online.
